Moosewood Launches Three New Refrigerated Organic Soups Rich in Flavor, Texture, and History

Tibetan Curried Lentil Soup, Hungarian Vegetable Noodle Soup and Savannah Sweet Potato Bisque Set to Debut at March 2005's Natural Products Expo West Show!

Fairfield Farm Kitchens announces the addition of three new organic vegetarian Moosewood Soups to its already successful lineup of Moosewood refrigerated soups, bringing the total number of available recipe varieties to nine. These new imaginatively delicious soups include: Tibetan Curried Lentil Soup, Hungarian Vegetable Noodle Soup and Savannah Sweet Potato Bisque. All three soups will be sampled by chefs/owners from the Moosewoo d! Collective at the upcoming Natural Products Expo West Show (Booth #4166) in Anaheim, CA from March 17-20, 2005.

The three new offerings are based on classic recipes served for years at the renowned Moosewood Restaurant, and later included in some of Moosewood's most popular cookbooks. Located in Ithaca, New York, Moosewood Restaurant is considered among the finest vegetarian restaurants in the world and is the inspiration for the award-winning Moosewood Restaurant Cookbook Series and the highly successful lineup of Moosewood Organic Vegetarian Soups.

"The tendency of many soup companies is to 'tone down' classic recipes, which oftentimes results in the loss of ethnic flavorings and local character," observes Frank Carpenito, President & CEO of Fairfield Farm Kitchens. Twelve years ago, exiled Tibetans living in Ithaca found work at Moosewood Restaurant, and one of them, Choklay Lhamo, actually created Tibetan Curried Lentil Soup from scratch in the Moosewood kitchen. It has been on the menu ever since, and features a rich, spicy broth thick with golden Pardina lentils, carrots, red potatoes and green peppers. In addition to its great taste, Tibetan Curried Lentil Soup is a Low Fat, Low Calorie, and Low Sodium soup, and has No Saturated Fat, No Trans Fat, and No Cholesterol.

Hungarian Vegetable Noodle Soup was one of the first soups that Moosewood cooks made when the restaurant opened more than thirty years ago. Two aromatic herbs in particular - dill and sweet paprika - give this hearty cabbage, vegetable, and noodle dish its authentic Eastern European flavor. In addition to its great taste, Hungarian Vegetable Noodle Soup is a Low Fat soup, and has No Saturated Fat, No Trans Fat, and No Cholesterol.

The recipe for Savannah Sweet Potato Bisque was developed by Moosewood Chef Sara Robbins, whose mother grew up in Georgia and instilled in her daughter a love for the luscious, low-country flavors of the South. This velvety soup is a delectable puree of potatoes, sweet potatoes, cheddar cheese, Neufchatel cream cheese and sweet red peppers.

Carefully handcrafted according to the Restaurant's original recipes, the line was an instant success. According to SPINScan for the 52-week period ending 12/25/04, Moosewood Soups had captured an astounding 42% share in the Refrigerated/Frozen Soups Category, while occupying the top six category positions. These soups are available in generously portioned 18-ounce heat-and-serve containers retailing for $4.99. Foodservice packaging is also available.
